How To Make A Good Cup of Tea at Work

I get asked this often and my first suggestion is always, "Put the leaves directly into the cup and continue to add water as you go." But there are a lot of people out there who just don't want leaves in their drink, which is totally understandable.

The three easiest things to do are to use a Brew Mug, the Steeped Travel Mug or a small mesh ball infuser.
Brew-in-Mug comes in white or black

Of course at work, people would like to have the least amount of mess that they can manage and my best suggetion is the Brew Mug for that since it comes with a lid which can also double as your infuser holder. You don't have to worry about burning your fingers (if you're careful of course) and you won't leak anything onto your paper work either.

We also have our Steeped travel mug which is incredibly handy for those of you who spend a lot of time in the car travelling. It's made by Thermos and has our "Steeped" logo on it. No matter how hot the water is, the travel mug is always cool to the touch.

A small mesh ball infuser is my personal least favourite, but it does the job you are after in an efficient and mess free way. Since I like my tea fairly strong I tend to use the large mesh ball infuser (in a large 3 cup mug) so that I am able to throw in a few extra scoops of tea without the infuser exploding (yes, it will do that if you put too many tea leaves in since tea leaves expand in water). The most convenient ones for work are the ones that come with a small trinket on the end because it is quicker, easier and less mess than the ones without. You will also have to make sure you have something to rest your infuser on once it is done steeping -- a teabag holder, a small plate, an extra mug all do the job nicely.

Thanks to a very dear friend, my mind has opened further. Calista, you're an amazing person thank you so much for taking me to the Wisdom Tea Shop.

I want to share some new knowledge with those around me by hosting Relaxation Tea Tasting Parties. I will not be coming with my suitcase of tea accessories nor with loads of paper work. Just me, my tea & tea pots and a yoga mat.

We will focus only on relaxation and opening up our senses to truly enjoy the taste, aroma, warmth and health benefits of tea.

If you are interested in having me come into your home and share this experience, please contact me. Invite your friends and family, but make it as comfortable for YOU as you wish, even if it is just one-on-one.

I'm Too Young For This i[2]y Fundraiser

I'm Too Young For This Cancer Foundation
I've come across an incredible cancer foundation in my journey at the cancer clinic in London (LRCP) that I think needs more support! It's called "I'm Too Young For This Cancer Foundation" and it is geared towards young adults diagnosed with cancer before the age of 40. For more details about "i[2]y" click here! or just go to i2y.com

What I'm trying to do right now is organize a fundraiser with the founder of i2y (find him on facebook here).

I will be selling the Steeped fundraising packages for $20 each and they include two 25g bags of loose leaf tea, one infuser ball, one scoop and one i[2]y "Stupid Cancer" bracelet. $5 of every sale will go directly to the i2y foundation.

Email jessicasmithbng@yahoo.ca to place an order
The $20 packages of tea you can choose from are :

"Green Goodness" which includes Japanese Sencha Green Tea & Tart Granny Apple Green Tea, infuser, scoop, bracelet and a $5 donation to i[2]y

"Kiddy Iced Tea" which includes Berry Mania Fruit Tea & Berry Mania Fruit Tea, infuser, scoop, bracelet and a $5 donation to i[2]y

"Top Favourites" which includes Creme Carmello Rooibos and Earl Grey de la Creme black tea, infuser, scoop, bracelet and a $5 donation to i[2]y

I'm able to ship anywhere in Canada, but you'll have to ask me for details.

Our goal is to try and raise $1000 for i[2]y. Deadline for all orders is December 1st 2010!

They come in a gift bag and would make a fabulous Christmas present under the tree or as a stocking stuffer! Christmas ribbons included. It will all be shipped out December 15th 2010 so you will get them with plenty of time to spare.

Also, if you'd like a "Stupid Cancer" bracelet on its own and you are in London, let me know and you can get one for a suggested donation of $2 each and all proceeds go to the i[2]y Cancer Foundation.

Just email me at jessicasmithbng@yahoo.ca with how many you would like to order, your phone number and your mailing address including postal code.

My Chamomile Adventure

The other day my two-year old came home from a walk with my mom and brought some wild daisies they had picked. They took the flowers and put them in a glass of water. Roots and all. I didn't put too much though into until today when I realized the sprouts were the same as the chamomile that I planted in August.

Just to make sure it really was chamomile, I washed the plant, removed some of the flowers and some seeds. I boiled some water and poured myself a cup. Once the water was poured I threw in the flowers and let them steep for about 5 minutes. I took the lid off of my Brew-In-Mug and took a sip. I was delighted to taste and smell that it WAS chamomile.

Henley Tea Pot (pg. 12 & 14)

I immediately went out and potted my new found plant. I took some dirt from the garden and put it in a pot I found in the basement. I cut off all of the flowers so they would dry and took some of the dry seeds and put them in an envelope.

To enriched the dirt to help the flowers grow, I added my leftover white tea from the day before. The tea was sitting in the leaves over night and I know that the antioxidants in white tea are so high that it can enrich anything that you put it in. Its fantastic compost.

Now, I'm looking forward to my new plant thriving and fresh chamomile to drink everyday. I'm going to cut and save the flowers as soon as they look big and fresh enough to use as tea.

Tart Granny Green Apple Green Tea & Brew-In-Mug

I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately because of the chemo medication I'm on at the moment. I had to do my shot late last night because I forgot to do it in the morning.

It's 7:30 am right now, which means my 2 year old is awake and ready to go. So my choices are either get up, drink tea and start my day, or flip on the TV and lay down on the couch while she plays around in the living room.

One guess what I decided to do....

Tart Granny Green Apple green tea (page 9)
You're probably right.

I made a hot cup of tea as strong as I could get it and I thought that Tart Granny Green Apple green tea (page 9) was a good choice.

It's really yummy and the leaves have little chunks of dried apple right in it. The flavour is not overpowering and the aroma is perfect. I prefer my green and white teas without sugar, but if you like your tea a little bit sweeter, I'm sure adding a bit of sugar would make it delicious. It all depends on your preference of course.

Green tea has just enough caffeine in it to boost me right now (less than coffee and black tea, but more than white tea) and get my day off to a good start.

Sometimes I like to add a drop of apple juice to this tea to make the flavour even more powerful but not load up on the caffeine. I also like this tea iced. Mmm!

Brew-in-Mug with Lid and Infuser (pg. 13)
The method of brewing choice today was easy. I didn't feel like a whole pot of tea yet so I just used my Brew In Mug (pg. 13) because it is just so quick, easy and not messy at all. The less of a struggle right now the better.

Superior Toffee Dream White Tea & Henley Tea Pot

Toffee Dream white tea leaves - pg. 12 in the catalogue
Today, my choice of tea was Toffee Dream white tea (page 6 in the catalogue). Which is actually my most commonly used tea around here. It's so delicious and good for you. There was recently a review written about it (and me) on LondonMoms. I was pretty excited about that.

Henley with Toffee Dream leaves
Of course I had to use my Henley Tea Pot (page 12 in the catalogue) because its amazing! Keeps the tea nice and hot because it is stainless steel AND, it's the only tea pot I've ever used that DOESN'T DRIP!!! It does come in different colours (pg. 14 in the catalogue) but I prefer my plain stainless steel one.

Happy sipping!!
